Snowflake Challenge Day 1

I'm doing the [community profile] snowflake_challenge from Jan 1-15.

Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Hipster cafes are an important part of my routine. I find them calming, the smell of coffee, people coming and going. The best of them mix indoor and outdoor space, and have lots of greenery. I like bringing headphones and writing in them, postcards, fic, essays, whatever. I don’t actually drink coffee, doesn’t mix well with my anti-depressant, but the smell of it brewing has become automatically calming. I drink chai lattes instead and they vary a lot in quality so it’s a bit of an adventure every time. I find they are the easiest place to find the right headspace for writing.

It also gives me a chance to get out of my own head a bit and that’s been really good for me lately.

Same same! I write out every day (that I write). There used to be a coffee shop I went to in town, but then McDonalds actually started to feel better (the cafe went downhill, not that McDonalds is super awesome, but I do like it there). When I'm out of town I go to Panera.

I love the smell of coffee (brewing, candles, etc), but not the taste (unless it's ice cream with hot fudge *g*). I'm a tea (iced or hot) drinker, also. But nothing sweet.

I find the hum of sound rather soothing and I sit next to a window so it's very bright and I can see the trees and flowers outside (when I'm not staring at snow).

I love the whole feel of it. (Maybe that's why I love coffee shop aus so much, lol!)
