What I’m doing: Not much in all honestly.
What I’m reading:
  • The Hanging Tree by Ben Aaronovitch: I only ever seem to read The Rivers of London when I have access to a library. I’ve read the first five out of order and in and while I enjoy them immensely I never feel the need to go out and get the whole series the next day; the way I so often do.
  • What is Yours is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi: lots of lovely short stories all interconnected. When I got done I went and put her other book on hold immediately.
  • Started New York 2140 by Kim Stanley Robinson but I’m only about 50 pages in so my opinions are pretty unformed.
  • This piece by Stephanie Beatriz about the B99 episode she directed.
What I’m listening to:Harry Potter as narrated by Jim Dale. My family was just as potter mad as the rest of our generation so we all had two copies of each book, and the early books on tape and the later books on cd. I’m registering to the first two in preparation for a road trip with my sister.
What I’m watching: Brooklyn Nine-Nine and holy shit they just did that.
What I’m writing: Not as much as I’d like but I’ve written 300 words of birthday fic for [personal profile] bluewinged_songbird  and another 500 for the untitled leverage/aos xo
Mental Health Check: 3/10. Bad week, pile of stuff, and an absolute lack of time to myself is a v bad combination.
Final Notes: Here's eleven minutes of puppies being adorable.

It’s nearly time for the best part of Super Bowl Sunday the puppy bowl! Life is a-ok.
opensummer: Image of Kara Zor-El in supergirl costume from the show Supergirl (there is no war in ba sing se)
What I’m doing: Finished my search and rescue certification and am taking a week off before I start on the dm program
What I’m reading: How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation. It’s a fascinating look at how we got where we are today, recommended by [personal profile] bluewinged_songbirdAnd a piece by the women who coined the term hopepunk. It's a lovely look at the question what's the point? You can read it here.
What I’m listening to: This collection of protest songs on youtube. Especially Quiet by MILCK which I somehow missed when it first came out.
What I’m watching: Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place! Both are back after hiatuses and as fabulous as ever.
What I'm writing: Not much this week. It wasn't a good one.
Mental Health Check: 3/10.  Self-isolating, had an anxiety attack, fucked up my sleep hygiene, and didn't leave my apartment for two days. Not great.
Final Notes: I wanna get better

One of my goals for this year is to post a weekly roundup to keep an eye on my mental health, encourage myself to write at least a little every week, and keep a record of what I'm up to. This is the first of them, hopefully published every sunday from here on out.

What I’m doing:
In Mexico, working on my S&R certification, so I can progress to a DM.
What I’m reading: Laurie Penny's column on longreads about sexuality, feminism, and the #metoo movement. They're fantastic reading and I've been devouring them. Start with The Consent of the (Un)governed if you check them out, and work from there.
What I’m listening to: Jay and Miles X-plain the X-Men. I let my queue build up so I’ve got the last 4 episodes to get through.  Thankfully I’ve got a fair amount of time on the boat everyday and I find listening to them very grounding.
What I’m watching: The trailer for the kid who would be king on repeat. It’s written and directed by Joe Cornish who directed Attack the Block, which might be my favorite movie of all time. Also I finally got around to watching Annihilation and it's fantastic- the best possible adaptation of the book.
What I’m writing:

  • history’s longest suicide note, now written out to chapter 5, 10k of ??
  • road song: An AU of AoS season 2 where Skye refuses both the inhumans and shields help and goes on a run. Themed around Richard Siken's Driving, Not Washing. 2.5k out of roughly 10k
  • no colors anymore: coda to I see the girls dressed by in their summer clothes. Where we get to see Lex's perspective on Kara's kidnapping. .8k out of 2k.
  • an untitled atla/star wars fusion fic where Rey is the avatar and Kylo Ren is not the Zuko friend. 1.4k out of 2k?

Mental Health Check: 5/10. Feeling a little isolated, despite my best efforts. Had a bad moment where I outed myself as a level 9,000 nerd wizard and just watched the entire group shut down. But I'm still up on all my messages and I called my sister this week which is good. Also Brooklyn 99 comes back this week which is gonna be really good for me.
Final Notes: my inner monologue has been pretty heavy on the why can’t you be just a little less autistic and that’s not fair or kind to myself. This year I’m trying to be both those things.

it's 30 minutes from the new year and i'm wine drunk, eating chips, watching sci-fi and writing fic.

If this is how 2k19 goes, I think i'll be ok.

Mostly i think that anything will be kinder than last year.

Normally i'd say airports are purgatories, static spaces designed to be neither one thing nor another. But it's one in the morning, they're blasting christmas music, a timer is going off and i'm never to get my hyperfocus back.

Goddamnit.

(I want you suffer the knowledge that the word meatspace is in the dictionary as i now must.)
