Pairings: Adrien Tepes | Alucard/Sypha Belnades/Trevor Belmont

Snowflake Challenge Day 2

Day 2
Rec at least three fanworks that you didn't create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Judith and her Maidservant by Siria
Summary: Later, Dora would think back on it and realise that clinically speaking, she had died.
Notes:I watched Venom a few weeks ago and deliberately did not let myself get attached to Dora, knowing that she would undoubtedly die sometime in the movie. And then I was so tired of knowing these things, that women die in film all time and nobody cares, I went hunting for fix-it fic. This was everything I hoped and more.

I Am the Night by chash
Summary: A new vigilante rises in New York City. The official position of the NYPD is that he's a criminal. Jake Peralta thinks he needs a sweater.
Notes:I normally read chash for their quality bellarke fic so when I got the notification for this one I nearly skipped. I'm so glad I didn't. Jake and the rest of the 99 gang is perfectly in character with their lowkey dragging of batman and desire to provide him with care packages and sweaters.

Linguistic Ambiguities in Vulcan Ethical Codes by elumish
Summary: The thing people always forget is that it was a Vulcan ship that reached Tarsus IV first.
Notes:This was and is my absolute favorite look at Jim Kirk post-Tarsus in the AOS. I have 100% accepted it as canon.

[FIC] honey, we came to dance. 1.5k

Title: honey, we came to dance
Fandom: MCU
Pairings: Steve Rogers & Natasha Romanov
Summary: Natasha takes Steve swing dancing. Surprisingly, he manages to have a good time.
Notes: Night asked for 10th Kingdom Virginia/Wolf fluff or anything with Steve Rogers when I offered them a solstice fic. I didn’t quite make solstice and I’m not much of one for Christmas so I figured I’d do as the hobbits do and give it to them for my birthday.
Shhh, it’s still my birthday week.

And because Night is the actual best (y’all should say nice things) I kinda maybe wrote both. This is the Steve Rogers bit.

Snowflake Challenge Day 1

I'm doing the [community profile] snowflake_challenge from Jan 1-15.

Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Hipster cafes are an important part of my routine. I find them calming, the smell of coffee, people coming and going. The best of them mix indoor and outdoor space, and have lots of greenery. I like bringing headphones and writing in them, postcards, fic, essays, whatever. I don’t actually drink coffee, doesn’t mix well with my anti-depressant, but the smell of it brewing has become automatically calming. I drink chai lattes instead and they vary a lot in quality so it’s a bit of an adventure every time. I find they are the easiest place to find the right headspace for writing.

It also gives me a chance to get out of my own head a bit and that’s been really good for me lately.

Title: easy like a monday morning
Fandom: The 10th Kingdom
Pairings: Virginia Lewis/Wolf
Summary: Virginia Lewis has breakfast in bed, calls her father, chats with her grandmother, and takes a walk in the park with her husband on her day off.
Notes: [personal profile] night_inscriber asked for 10th Kingdom Virginia/Wolf fluff or anything with Steve Rogers when I offered them a solstice fic. I didn’t quite make solstice and I’m not much of one for Christmas so I figured I’d do as the hobbits do and give it to them for my birthday.
Shhh, it’s still my birthday week.

And because Night is the actual best (y’all should say nice things) I kinda maybe wrote both prompts? Anywhoo.

Also Virginia’s Grandmother’s name is Adeline. ‘cause she doesn’t have one canonically I needed one.

Castlevania and Anachronism

Got a comment of history's longest suicide note pointing out that coffee drinking is anachronistic and I figured I'd write some meta on it.

+

SO I did actually consider throwing in a line about a speaker caravan having carried it back from the east and Sypha getting into it then but decided not to for two reasons. One is the handwavey something like 50% of castlevania is anachronistic, do not get me started on Trevor’s short sword it makes me want to tear my hair out, and therefore other anachronisms are more or less acceptable.

Two, though, is the one I actually thought about, so hold on to your socks. So my theory of the castlevania world is that it doesn’t track with our historical development for three reasons.
  1. Vlad Tepes the historical figure was born between 1428-1431 and died between 1476-1477. The action in the series kicks off with Lise’s appearance at the castle in 1455 and Dracula is explicitly stated as having been hundreds (if not thousands) of years old when he meets her, which means who knows what else they’ve messed with.
  2. Magic! They have magic that allows people to farsee, to teleport, and as sypha demonstrated the ability to use magic to clear land. Extrapolating from that I suspect they have lots of mundane uses for magic (building roads and house, creating timber, heating water, etc.) Because of those two factors I suspect that Castlevania’s world in 1475 was much smaller than ours was at the same time period.
  3. They clearly have some concept of globalism. Dracula’s generals are supposed to represent, as far as I can tell the Viking/Celts- Godbrand. India/Pakistan region- the female general in the headdress and sari? I think it’s a sari and the male general in turban. Hector is greek and Isaac is african. I personally like the idea of Moroccan!Isaac but I’m open to arguments there, and wiki tells me the disappearing female vampire’s name was Cho, which is a Korean surname. So I fall on the side of the argument that they haven extensive land networks. (And the reason that there are no New World Vampires is that they can’t cross the ocean to get there.)

So I decided that Sypha as a nomad would have encountered coffee either through her own travels or be trading with another speaker caravan. Alucard, I decided was introduced to it by his mother, who got addicted when she first starting living with Dracula and he refused to tailor his hours to a human. So Lise discovered coffee as a way to make it through all the all-nighters she had to pull- Dracula’s Magical Kitchen has Everything, and never quite kicked the habit after. (Her pregnancy incidentally was the Actual Worst because she went eight months cold turkey. Her first request after naming Adrien was for a cup.)

My headcanon for Trevor is that after the Belmont Estate went up in flames, he did the whole soldier of fortune thing and never had the money for coffee and the few times he did, he spent it on booze instead. So Sypha and Alucard are both a little addicted and expect a cup in the mornings and Trevor takes good care of his husband and wife team by providing it to them.

Title: history's longest suicide note
Fandom: Castlevania (Netflix 2017)

Summary: It takes them a year to realize they're fucked.
Notes: So this is in response to episode 8, which never happened, Alucard, Sypha, and Trevor are in love and also the apocalypse is happening.

I don’t know what this is, or how long it’s going to be or even where it will end up. When I first started writing it I though the whole thing would be 8 to 10k max. I’ve now written 15k and they’ve barely left the castle which means this is going to be both the longest thing I’ve ever written and the first multichapter I feel good about finishing.

Chapters range between 2-3k,  perspectives rotate between the ot3, and I intend to update every Wednesday until this thing is done.

We’ll see how that works out.

women of the underworld

*rolls up to this fandom with coffee, two to ten years late depending on your perspective*

So you know what just occurred to me, watching this show? Elena is the heir.
  • Clay’s a strong right hand, useful and willing, but not a leader of men, not an organizer. His perspective is too limited, he doesn’t think long term. (It might have been him, before Elena. But Jeremy is too pragmatic to not recognize the way things change. Clay proved his unworthiness when he chose to bite her.)
  • Antonio was too weak and proved it when he stepped aside for Jeremy. He’s a good advisor and a loyal friend but he refused power when it was offered. He knew it would slip out of his hands if it was given to him.
  • Nick is Antonio’s son with all his weaknesses, magnified in some ways, minimized in others. He’s charming, good with people but he’s Clays friend first
  • Pete doesn’t want it. He never has and even if he did the years he spent outside the pack and his experiences have made him an outsider. He couldn’t hold the Pack if he led it.
  • Logan could. Theoretically, maybe. He’s the got the history, a trueborn son of the Pack, grown among his brothers. He thinks in the ways Jeremy approves of. But in a challenge (and it would come to a challenge because Logan’s spent years baring his throat to Clay) he would lose. And every member of the pack knows it.
Now Jeremy thinks he’s got time enough. Jeremy at any given moment has at least three backups in motion. He’s not an old man, he could still get an heir. But the ruthless bit of him whispers- here she is. He’s not immune to the awe a female werewolf causes.

Jeremy watched his father murder his mother, once she had ‘served her purpose’. He was certain then that there had to be a better way. Thirty years later he’s still certain, still searching. (This, incidentally, is the reason Jeremy doesn’t have a blood heir.) In between he had Clay, his son in all but blood and he thought for a while that that would be enough. Clay would be a tyrant but he would see the Pack safe, their enemies conquered.

It hurts Jeremy when Clay doesn’t out grow his impulsiveness. When Clay can’t make himself fit.

And then- Elena.

Elena is the culmination of his failure and the proof of thirty years of conviction. There’s a better way.

She’s it.

yeah, but the 100 with superpowers

Can you imagine?

They come up with idk- a serum the gives you powers but it’s only good on young people and really? Do you really want to weaponize people in space?

So it doesn’t get used until the 100 get shipped back to earth and they’ve only got like 100 doses (+2 b/c Murphy is going to have powers which means Bellamy needs them too and Raven is too awesome not to be a technopath).

So Clarke escapes her cell and her mother gives her the shot right above her father’s watch and Shumway shows up with a gun and one hand and syringe in the other and tells Bellamy to kill the Councilor for both of them. The councilor tells them in the video about the serum but it’s a little too sci-fi for them so it’s dismissed in the whole shit we’re going to earth chaos. until.

Until they land and Octavia screams we’re back bitches and they’re cleaning up and setting up camp and there’s a kid who broke his arm in the landing (crash. but hey any one you walk away from right?) and Clarke’s setting it and her skin brushes his and. And his arm’s healed. Just like that. The kid’s too caught up the miracle to realize that just for a moment Clarke’s arm had bent and snapped and she’s doubled over by the pain (for a moment, just a moment) and across camp one of the hoard of teen extras is making flowers sprout beneath her feet.

So Clarke brushes her hands over the injured because she’s never been good at taking care of herself (she had Wells for that but now. Things change.) The bruises, cuts, scrapes flicker on her skin and fade quick and nobody is looking for it, so nobody sees. It’s just a moment of pain for somebody else’s freedom from it. She’s thinks its worth it. Clarke always thinks healing someone is worth it. (That’s why she’s Clarke)

Princess doesn’t really sound like an insult after she’s healed the 100 and about half the camp is saying it in reverential tones.

+

Jasper can blow things up with his brain, which is totally cooler than Monty’s ability to grow things. Miller can purify water make it drinkable but Roma can control it, pulling water out of people’s clothes, out of tents, throwing up a shield of water over the whole camp after the glory of the first thunderstorm had worn off and they were sick of being soaked. Fires leap into existence when Monroe snaps her fingers and die when she glares at them, she’s never cold anymore. Harper takes a shot and never misses, one bullet one kill, which means she’s always got a gun on her. Finn never loses a scent after he catches which makes him the best damn tracker in the camp.

Octavia is strong and fast and downright feral which is why the first time she and Bellamy get into a knockdown fight nobody is really all that shocked when she blurs into, to quote some asshole in the crowd a motherfucking wolf and lunges for her brother. Except Bellamy’s stronger and faster and knocks her away and the bastard’s got super strength and invulnerability not that anybody catches on to that for a while.

Murphy can break bones and twist peoples bodies and most of his crew’s powers are about the ability to hurt people and Clarke is quietly grateful that Bellamy is stronger than them.

Atom’s got telekinesis but Fox can read peoples minds, and Wells can make people listen to him. When he starts talking people just stop. (Nobody likes the kids with mind powers)

Charlotte gave off light and color depend on her mood (and when Bellamy told her to say screw you I’m not afraid they’d gone golden and soft, without the harsh cadence of black that colored her every move on the ground.)

Clarke can’t bring back the dead but that doesn’t mean she didn’t try. (Clarke can’t heal herself either)

+

So superpowers save them from some choices, some deaths.

(Clarke hums when she lays hands on Atom and keeps humming even as her skin boils and bubbles with pain. Bellamy is looking at her, not at Atom and watches the blisters flicker quick fade, the grimace on her face as she keeps humming.

This is when Bellamy Blake decides Clarke Griffin is the sort of strong that makes him ashamed. It doesn’t stop him from shouting at her for concealing what her power does to her away from the rest. Even Bellamy recognizes that they need her.)

The walls take a day to be built and they are twice as tall and made of metal because there’s a kid with the ability to transform matter. And they have thirty feet of clearing around the camp because they need a clear lines of sight and growing plants means you can kill them too.

A moment sometime after they become co-leaders when Bellamy brings in a kid who cut his himself hunting and bled everywhere. He’s only got one shirt dammit. So Clarke heals the kid and tries to heal Bellamy too. (It’s not my blood. I’ll believe you if you let me heal you. And he’s dodging her because he disagrees with the casual use of her powers (she thinks) and eventually she just grabs him and oh. It’s the first time she’s touched someone without pain since they hit the ground. You can’t be hurt she says and then they argue about concealing powers, you can’t talk princess and she says you don’t hide things from me. The others yes. But not me. Things become easier between them after that.

(Looking back she realizes it was the same when he pulled her up from the trap but there were others and her power was too new to notice the difference.)

She doesn’t sleep with Finn. There’s a moment when she’s tempted but its not worth the pain, the everyday aches compounded by somebody else’s pain. She’s glad of that when Raven crashes the next day- strong and fierce and terrifying with her ability to take machines apart and put them back together.

(Mom, Clarke says we don’t need to worry about the aftermath just getting the knife out without killing him.

Abby Griffin says of course you do-

and Clarke cuts her off and says you gave us a serum that gave us powers based on who we are and what we want. What do you think I got? Which gets embarrassed silence from Abby.) So they get the knife out and Raven watches Clarke grimace and go pale and yeah Raven knows too. Raven builds radios because they don’t need a physical bomb with Jasper.

So they don’t have to torture Lincoln but that doesn’t mean they treat him well and Clarke goes to clean his wounds and she brushes her hand against his, just once and then cleans the blood away as she and Octavia argue about necessity.

And Day Trip crap stoned teenagers with superpowers with Mom and Dad out of camp. Things are hella more chaotic. And then the bridge and Anya is a little more wary a little more afraid because the Sky people can do things her people can hardly imagine. It still ends with Jasper breaking cover but in this world its when he blows the top off of the trees grounders are hanging from not by shooting them. The exodus ship crashes and Clarke doubles up in pain and Raven reassembles the ship with her mind carrying what’s salvageable with her, sealing up the explosives for later use, because who knows what you’ll need and Murphy shows up and things go to shit. (Bellamy won’t let Clarke get near enough to Murphy to heal him. thinks he doesn’t deserve it.)

Clarke presses a hand to everyone who gets sick but not before Derek succumbs to the illness and she gets sicker and sicker until Bellamy forces her into a hammock and tells her if she tries to heal anybody else he’ll kill them and waste her work. Raven’s building radios not bombs because Jasper is put in charge of blowing up the bridge and Jasper leaves camp with Monty and some of the militia Clarke healed right around the time Bellamy gets sick. He wakes to Murphy offering him water and refuses but Clarke takes over not before laying a hand on Murphys shoulder. He heals she blanches and Bellamy calls her a goddamn idiot.

The smokehouse doesn’t burn because Monroe was in charge of the fire which means the grounders take Clarke and her escort from right outside of the walls where they’re preparing for war. She might regret healing Lincoln when they kill Myles (who could turn himself invisible) and take Finn and her to Tris. Anya says save her or your friend dies and that’s not a choice for her. So she presses a hand to Tris’s forehead murmurs comfort as she buckles. Clarke spits blood from a collapsed lung and Anya looks at her with something like respect and Finn finally puts together her aversion to touch and her power. He shouts when they take him away, nearly doubles back when they release him but he’s alone and unarmed so he goes back to camp. And he can find her again so he hopes she can wait for reinforcements. He stumbles into Monty and they make it back to camp together and round up a party to rescue Clarke because they’re untrained kid but they’ve got superpowers which makes them pretty badass if they could only see who they’re fighting. That mission doesn’t go well and elsewhere Clarke is making her first kill, carefully. Because she can’t touch him without healing him.

Meanwhile Murphy snapped both of Jaspers legs with a thought and holds the groundship hostage. Raven can unlock the door with a thought but they need Jasper as a soldier so they can’t risk him. Bellamy negotiates a trade because bullets aren’t going to hurt him and he’s the one Murphy wants anyway. (Clarke is the only one who knows he’s invulnerable.)

So they go through that scene put the noose around your neck, but Bellamy’s not going to die from this. So he rushes Murphy and gets a bullet that bounces off of him for his trouble and Murphy tries to use his power but it doesn’t work. (Murphy totally dies ok? Ok.)

They’re a lot stronger in this world so they stand their ground but they’re still only untrained teenagers so when the grounders come by the hundreds they kill them by the tens. People die but Raven who’s up and walking with a bullet still in her throws the ship together and fires the rockets with Bellamy and Finn still out there. They win.

And then the mountain men come.

Clarke wakes up in a white room, cleaner then she has been in months and pulls the iv. Across from her Monty is growing vines in the cracks forcing the door open. Down the hall Jasper just blew out his door and…

HP ask from tumblr

themisofpumpkinpie asked: Hi there! Bypassing the meet cute so we can talk seriously about "how do you fix harry potter world"!!! I'm so glad you asked b/c while I understand plot-wise why certain things are written the way they are (HP is basically a mystery novel series and I love it) common sense wise it isn't always the best.. Massively Problematic Not-Fav Dumbledore anyone? Anyway! I'm not sure if you were looking for a strictly in canon fix but my personal fix that I've been working on forever is timetravel!! [1/2]

[2/2] Hi again! So! My best friend helped me develop a world where HP, HG, NL, & DM all go back in time after a worse outcome of the war to do things better!Basically just a gratuitous build up of the DA, making their own society in the RoR, being badass warriors and spies!Of course everyone gets a, mostly, happy ending.I’m not sure if that’s what you meant about fixing the HP world but I always find it easier to blow things up and start over when canon gets too ugly! I’d love to hear your ideas!

things we need to talk about when we talk about: Alya Césaire: Internet Sensation

Alya runs the definitive Ladybug site. She’s the first call for Ladybug interviews (and if Chat ever gives one she’s likely to be his first choice too- a. Because he trusts his lady’s judgement and b. Because he knows her.) Alya is, in fact, the only member of the media we’ve seen Ladybug speak too.

Ladybug literally leaps right past the camera crews to talk to Alya in the mime episode.

So she has exclusive content, is basically guaranteed to be right on site when an attack breaks out (I have theories about that too but that’s a whole ‘nother post) and runs a site specifically for her content.

Alya Césaire is absolutely internet famous. Full stop.

The Ladyblog is not something she really expected to take off. (tbf Alya never expected to be living in a world with superheroes in it.) But she was on site when the first attack happened and a child of her generation and a reporter to the bone- so she’s got the best angle when Ladybug appears and shouts at “Lucky Charm” to the sky.

She ran a blog half heartedly before Ladybug and the footage of that fight, the first fight, is the post with the single most comments, reblogs, likes. She turns off her phone that night because it won’t stop buzzing as notifications come in. The conversation that comes out of it, the speculation, it’s better than fandom for her. She’s deep down the rabbit hole when the next Akuma strikes eight blocks down from her apartment. Alya runs towards the fight.

The Ladyblog is created the next day. It’s a mix of exclusive footage, speculation on origins and identity of their hero, and squee.

She’s there two weeks later when Chat Noir joins the fight, already recording, and he has to haul her out of the way of a plasma blast. She gets the first interview either of them ever gives that time.

It’s willful the way she throws herself into danger after that.

three headcanons and a lot of angst for the Miraculous Ladybug fandom

1. Alya keeps track of everybody who has been akumatized for the ladyblog and realizes that their class has a statistically high chance of being targeted. There’s a powerpoint with hand drawn charts, motivations for akumas to strike, and a list consisting of question marks and whys. (She’s a little obsessed.) When she’s done she looks over her findings and comes to two conclusions. One- Ladybug and Chat Noir definitely go to their school, 5,000 years old or not. (She’s leaning towards not.) Two- Marinette and Adrien are the only ones in their class who have never been akumatized and therefore MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS.

Alya presents her findings to the class and when they’re nodding agreement, she sets up a rotation, bullies their classmate into keeping an eye on them. When Adrien is having a bad day she drops cookies on his desks, Chloe is rude to Marinette and Kim trips over himself to draw her off. Rose leaves them cute notes in their lockers, Alix invites Marinette to watch movies and Max helps Adrien beat Undertale.

Every time an akuma attacks the class holds it’s breath. This time, they think, this time we’ve lost something important. Neither of them gets left alone until their classmates confirm they weren’t the one akumatized.

(This is Massively. Inconvenient. to Marinette and Adrien.)

2. The Miraculous Cure works on everything and everyone except Ladybug. It heals broken bones, restores city blocks. It can bring. back. the. dead. So yeah the cure is Ladybug’s ultimate power. Except it does’t work on her. Ladybug takes every scrape, every bruise, every broken bone for the sake of the akumatized.

Chat Noir doesn’t know. (Ladybug, in fact, goes to great lengths to hide this from him. She has no desire to encourage his death wish.)

It’s instinct that has him throwing himself between her and the enemy, her and the bomb. Chat Noir remembers aches like a phantom pain, three-fourths gone. They fade when the cure hits. Nothing sticks to him.

This is true until he slips up. Chat Noir’s not in the right place and his Lady takes the hit instead of him. Ladybug bleeds. Chat Noir screams his rage to the world and has the akuma before anybody can catch up.

Ladybug throws the Lucky Charm high and fixes the world. She’s still bleeding.

3. The food that powers the kwamis is the previous holders favorite food. Think about it. (Don’t let it crush your soul.)

The sorting hat drops over Hermione Grangers head and the first word it says to her is Slytherin.

No. She says, brisk and abrupt, the tone that in a decade ministry workers will have learned to cower from.

No.
